Parque das Dunas
The Dune Park (Parque das Dunas), has 1,172 acres of native woodlands and is the second largest urban park in Brazil. The reserve, a preserved sampling of the Brazilian Mata Atlantica was created in 1977 and forms an immense natural wall that protects the city and holds dozens of species of fauna and flora from the region.

The Park is open to public visiting, through the ‘Bosque dos Namorados’, and offers ecological trails of different lengths as also a cultural agenda of events. The ‘Parque das Dunas’ is a must for all nature lovers that, with luck, will be able to appreciate original species, such as Coleodactylus Natalensis, the smallest lizard in South America, which is only 3cm and can be found in the fauna of the Park.

The Mãe Luiza Lighthouse
‘Farol de Mãe Luiza’ was inaugurated in 1951 and its lantern has a 44km light distance. It is located on the margins of the Via Costeira and is 37 meters high. The building is administered by the Captaincy of the Port and whoever is willing can climb the 151 step spiral staircase during visiting hours, every Sunday , from 1400 to 1700 hours. The entrance is free and the access is through the district of Mãe Luiza.

Museum of Câmara Cascudo
The Museum of Câmara Cascudo, named after one of the greatest historian and folklorists of Brazil, is the most important collections of natural and anthropological science of the state. Administered by the Federal University of Rio Grande do Norte, the Museum of Câmara Cascudo is located in the district of Tirol and makes available for visiting a collection of around 2,500 pieces of compared anatomy, archeology, sedimentary geology and speleology. The museum is open for visits from Tuesday to Friday, 8 to 11.30 and 2 to 5.30, and on Saturdays and Sundays from 1 to 5 o’clock.

Fortaleza dos Reis Magos (Fort of the Three Kings)
Fortaleza dos Reis Magos, an icon of the city of Natal , is the symbol of the Portuguese colonization of the state, having its construction initiated on January 6, 1598, Three Kings Day, which gave the fort its name. The architectural Project is attributed to the Jesuit father Gaspar de Samperes and already by 1604; it functioned as an important coastal defense point, with a permanent garrison of around 200 men. The construction, located very near the mouth of the Potengi River, was the stage of intense battles against local tribes and also against the Dutch, who took the fort around 1630 and re- baptized it Castelo Keulen. It remained so for 21 years when the Dutch were permanently ousted by the Portuguese. The fort is open for public visits daily from 8 to 4:30, with local guided tour service.

The Redinha Market
The Redinha Market is located on the North shore of Natal, and is one of the most important local gastronomical references. A stopping point for many of those on their way to the North shore of the state, the market is worth a visit for those who want to try the delicious ‘ginga (fish) with tapioca’ tasting it in one of the many kiosks. Next to the market you’ll find the Church of Nosso Senhora dos Navegantes, constructed in stone by the fishermen another tourist site often visited.

The Tourist Center
The Tourist Center, located in the district of Petrópolis , is in a historical building where once functioned the old public prison of Natal in the 40’s to 60’s. It is one of the principle business spots for handcrafts and other typical products of the ‘Potiguar’ culture. Since 1976, the Center receives thousands of tourists annually, attracted by the products offered in its dozens of shops and by the art gallery. Besides this, the place is the site of the traditional ‘Forro with the Tourist’ an event that occurs every Thursday night during high season on the patio in the building. The Centro de Turismo has no entrance fee and is open daily from 8 to 19 hours, offering also a tourist counter.

Catedral de Natal
The Cathedral of Nossa Senhora de Apresentação, known as the Metropolitan Cathedral or simply the New Cathedral, is located in the limits between the districts of Cidade Alta and Tirol. The beginning of the building’s construction, with its well defined trapezoid shape is from the 70’s, but the Cathedral only came to be inaugurated in 1988. The church is baptized in honor of the city’s patron Saint- Our Lady of the Presentation.

The Gateway to Natal
The Pórtico Monument of Natal is an architectural ensemble alluding to the Three Kings, constructed for the commemoration of the 400th anniversary of the city’s founding. After its inauguration on December 30, 1999, it rapidly became one of the principle post cards of Natal. It’s located on the margin of BR 101 at the entrance to the city and was registered at the time as one of the most audacious constructions in reinforced concrete. At night the structure is illuminated and the location is a stopping point for many tourists that register the image as they arrive and leave the city.

Newton Navarro Bridge
The Bridge for All, Newton Navarro, inaugurated in November 2007, is one of the most important architectural feats constructed in the last decades in RN. Its principle function is social, because it permits the integration between the North Zone to all the other areas of Natal, linking the beaches of Forte and the Redinha, relieving up until then the only road access available, the Igapó Bridge. The feat, that instantly became a post card of Natal, is the highest steel wired bridge in Brazil, and is around 55 meters high and approximately 1.8 km long.
