General Information
Currais Novos is one of the most popular cities in RN and one of the special points of interest in the Seridó.It  borders with the State of Paraíba,and emerged from an old village of the Canindé and Janduí Indians. The city offers the natural beauty of the Sierras , peaks, rivers, dams and lakes and in many points it’s possible to practice the extreme sports, like rappelling on the Pico do Tororó, the Serra do Chapéu the  Pedra do Cruzeiro; and moutain climbing on the  Serras da Catunda, Acauã  and the  Piauí. The Brejuí Mine is the oldest scheelita mine in the State. Even though it is inactivated , it still exibits its more than 60 kilometers of tunnels nd galleries and offers a show of colors, supplied by the mineral veins in the rock .The rock formations protrude exuberantly, making the municipality known for its diversity of stones, that are worked on by hand ,revealing fascinationg pieces. Other points of interest are Tororó  Dam and the Rocks of  Sino and Caju.
Outstanding handicrafts can be found  ,in the making of ornamental jars, clay filters and the manufacturing of straw bags and rugs. Currais Novos, as in other cities of the region, also is a big religious tourist destination, holding annually in July , the municipality’s feast of the patron saint, Nossa Senhora de Sant´ana. Other famous festivals are the vaquejada (type of rodeo), the  Carnascheelita (carnival) and the Forronovos (type of country western) .
